How to remove yourself from LexisNexis

LexisNexis feeds the background checks and insurance quotes companies run on you. Here is how to opt out.

LexisNexis's opt-out needs a manual step you can't skip — we're flagging that up front rather than glossing over it.

How to opt out of LexisNexis

  1. Go to the LexisNexis consumer opt-out portal (link below) and start the request.
  2. Pick the reason that fits you. Identity-theft victims and people at risk of harm can request broader removal — but that path needs supporting documents.
  3. Enter your name, current address, and date of birth. You may be asked to upload a government-issued photo ID; black out any number you don't need to share.
  4. Review your details and submit, then save the confirmation email.

What LexisNexis collects

Data used in background checks, insurance pricing, and court and credit records — the files companies pull when they check you out.

What we'd tell a friend

The most established aggregator in this set. Its data feeds background checks and insurance pricing. The consumer opt-out only reaches its commercial products. It does not touch data held for courts, law enforcement, or government clients, and it won't fix a wrong background check. If a background check about you is wrong, that's a Fair Credit Reporting Act dispute — a different process. See our removal guide for where to start.

Why this can come back

Most people-search and aggregator sites re-crawl their public-record sources on a rolling basis. An opt-out removes today's listing; it doesn't stop the site from re-pulling your record the next time it refreshes. That's the reason removal is something you check on periodically, not a one-time task — see our full removal guide for the re-listing mechanics in detail.

Frequently asked questions

Does the LexisNexis opt-out remove everything? #
No. It only covers the commercial data products LexisNexis sells to businesses. It doesn’t reach records held for courts, law enforcement, or government clients, and it won’t correct a background check.
How long does LexisNexis removal take? #
LexisNexis says it can take up to 30 days to process a consumer suppression request. Save the confirmation email and follow up through the portal if you don’t hear back.
My background check is wrong — will opting out fix it? #
No. A wrong background check is a Fair Credit Reporting Act dispute, which is a separate process from the consumer opt-out. Our removal guide points you to the right starting place.
